here’s a batch of misprints that I mentioned, which resulted from a weird combination of the paper + type of glue stick + laser printer (apparently low on toner)
-
Using liquid gold leaf failed me, because I covered my book with cotton paper (my fabric didn’t turn out to be usable)….so I will have to think of an alternative for the grad show version.
-
Japanese stab binding
trying to size some fabric, my first attempt at this.
-
I was able to find the paper I had been envisioning my project with over the weekend, it is called “Chinese water paper” in english… so I started to prepare things and began making some paste to size my fabric for the hard cover.
Printed at York all of last night on the paper, had some difficulties with the glue, paper, printer combo and I had to reprint a lot…and then this morning I cut 1/2” too much off 10 pages and had to go back to York to reprint them again….so I’m really behind my schedule now.
Also refined a few spreads and made a couple of new ones that would help to contextualize it…but more on that later.

Bibliography layouts so far…

Printing…and testing out colours for the insert pages.
Spent some time hand cutting tabloid sheets of tracing paper from a 24” wide roll, went through the equivalent of one glue stick gluing sheets onto standard stock so that it would go through the laser printers. -

High ResolutionTrying to choose a stock for the inserted pages with what I have available…..will need to properly find stock after.
-
This is what I have so far.
Things to do:
- write blurbs for each section
- decide if blurbs will go all at the beginning or before each section
- colophon
- bibliography section
- buy more tracing paper because I cannot find my huge roll of tracing paper for some reason!??!
- scan book pages
- image editing
- finish designing philosophy section
- go over everything and type set, kern, track, spell check
- find stock for “half pages”
- print colour at home
- stock for end pages
- stock/material for cover
- table of contents
- change size of “half pages” (re: make smaller, more significant contrast to book size) -
printed out a full set of thumbnails, cut them out and put it roughly together to see how my book would look like, sequencing, feeling etc
